The task that Mary was given was a great one. She raised Jesus, and as a perfect child, He was obedient to His Mother. God the Father put great confidence in Mary with His own Son. It therefore pleases God that we, likewise, place our confidence in her and submit to her. In the story “A Garden,” Daisy listens to the guidance of her mother. Daisy is directed exactly how to plant the seeds that were given to her. She is reminded to water the seeds and to be about her duties. This is all done with tenderness and love. Yet there is a firmness as well. Our Blessed Mother Mary knows how precious we are to Our Lord, and she wants us always to be close to God and on the path to Heaven. Being obedient to the guidance of Our Heavenly Mother helps keep us on the straightest path to our eternal home.

     Likewise, Mary puts complete trust in God. In the Bible, one of the few times Mary speaks is during the wedding feast at Cana when the bride and groom run out of wine. She asks her Son to help. He explains that His time has not yet come. Her response was to tell the servers, “Do whatever He tells you” (Jn 2:5). Mary’s confidence is not disappointed. Indeed, Jesus changes the water in several large stone jars into wine. The water is not turned into the common wine that had been served at the wedding. Instead, the water is turned into a choice wine superior in flavor. Jesus does not only fulfill His Mother’s request; He exceeds the expectations of His Mother. We see from this example that Mary’s requests are received in a special way.
