In the story of “A Garden,” we see that Mother is not able to help Daisy with her hands. In the story we are told Mother’s hands are not very strong. Mother is able to stay close and guide Daisy, but Daisy is the one who must use her hands to do the work. So it is with Our Blessed Mother. She can guide us, but we are the ones God calls to work in the vineyard. Our Blessed Mother, like us, lived on earth and toiled with the difficulties of life. From Heaven, she can guide us, but the work is to be done by those still of this earth—the laborers. We are told that “[t]he harvest is abundant but the laborers are few” (Lk 10:2). Many are called, such as when the king sent the servants to notify those invited to the banquet, but they refused to come (cf. Mt 22:3). We are told repeatedly in Scripture, “Whoever has ears ought to hear” (Mt 11:15, Rev 2:29; cf. Mk 4:9, Lk 8:8). So often we do not hear the call to the vineyard or even the call to the banquet. Our Lady is there to help us not to miss the call.
