Day 11
Come, Holy Spirit
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Thy faithful and enkindle in them the fire of Thy love.
V. Send forth Thy Spirit, and they shall be created;
R. And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth. LET US PRAY.
O God, who didst teach the hearts of Thy faithful people by sending them the light of Thy Holy Spirit, grant us
by the same Spirit to have right judgement in all things, and evermore to rejoice in His holy comfort. Through Christ Our Lord. Amen
O Holy Spirit, sweet Guest of my soul, abide in me and grant that I may ever abide in Thee.
A gardener knows that seeds planted in pure fertile soil will yield a greater harvest than those planted in contaminated soil, which contains disease. Three times in Scripture there are references to the benefits of seeds that fall on good soil. Those seeds grown in good soil can produce crops a hundred times as great (cf. Lk 8:8, Mt 13:8, Mk 4:8).
In much the same way, our souls bear more fruit when they are pure than when purity is lost. Sin can be forgiven, but once a soul loses its purity, it cannot be renewed to its original glory. It can be mended, so to speak, and repaired, but it will not be the same as it was originally. If one is to think of dear Daisy and her garden, if she were able to keep the soil of her garden free from contamination and things that would harm her seeds, then she would have the opportunity to grow more fruit and vegetables to give to Father. But if the soil were to become contaminated, the seeds might still grow, but the harvest would be less. Over time the soil can be improved by heavy helpings of good things. However, it takes time and much effort. The harvest can be improved, but most often it will not reach a condition that would yield a harvest similar to that grown in pure, clean soil.
Our Blessed Mother who embodies purity watches over the innocent souls of her children with great attention. She guards purity, as she knows its great value in Heaven and the pleasure it gives the Father to see a soul pure and tending its garden. Thus when a soul Consecrates itself to Our Lady at a tender age, Our Blessed Mother has the opportunity to guard the purity of the soul more effectively.
Goal: Consecration to Our Blessed Mother at a young age helps to preserve the precious innocence and purity of one’s soul.
