Day 13
Come, Holy Spirit
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Thy faithful and enkindle in them the fire of Thy love.
V. Send forth Thy Spirit, and they shall be created;
R. And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth. LET US PRAY.
O God, who didst teach the hearts of Thy faithful people by sending them the light of Thy Holy Spirit, grant us
by the same Spirit to have right judgement in all things, and evermore to rejoice in His holy comfort. Through Christ Our Lord. Amen
O Holy Spirit, sweet Guest of my soul, abide in me and grant that I may ever abide in Thee.
In the story, “A Garden,” young Daisy is given seeds by her father to grow. These seeds are especially chosen for her. They are not exactly the same as the seeds given to other children. They are carefully chosen with love.
A similar story exists in the Gospels when three servants are each given talents. One servant is given five talents, one servant is given two talents, and the last servant is given one talent. We are told each was given according to his ability. Then the master went away. When he returned, he called the servants to settle accounts with them.
The servant to whom he had given five brought the original talents as well as five more. The master congratulated the servant, “Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master’s joy” (Mt 25:21).
When the servant to whom the master had given two approached, he brought two additional talents. To him the master said, “Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master’s joy” (Mt 25:23).
Tomorrow we will find out what became of the third servant.
Goal: Each seed or talent is given according to our ability, and we will be held accountable as to what we have done with our gifts.
