Day 7
Come, Holy Spirit
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Thy faithful and enkindle in them the fire of Thy love.
V. Send forth Thy Spirit, and they shall be created;
R. And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth. LET US PRAY.
O God, who didst teach the hearts of Thy faithful people by sending them the light of Thy Holy Spirit, grant us
by the same Spirit to have right judgement in all things, and evermore to rejoice in His holy comfort. Through Christ Our Lord. Amen
O Holy Spirit, sweet Guest of my soul, abide in me and grant that I may ever abide in Thee.
How does Our Lady help us to hear Our Lord’s call? She draws souls to prayer. Just as a seed needs water and nutrients, our souls need the water and food of prayer. Plants also need the warm rays of the sun. Just so, our souls thirst for the love of God. A plant deprived of sun grows weak and with the first strong wind is blown over. Those young plants that bask in the sun grow strong. Just so, a soul that draws close to the love of Our Lord grows strong. Our Lady also teaches souls to come to prayer in humility. To be humble is not to deny the good things God has done. Mary never did this. We see this in the Canticle of Mary:
“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Savior. For He has looked upon His handmaid’s lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed.” (Lk 1:46-48)
Following in the example of Mary, we are to acknowledge our weakness and dependence on God. When God chooses to use us as an instrument, the resulting fruits are always to glorify God, and not ourselves.
Goal: Our Lady helps us to hear Our Lord’s call by leading us to prayer.
